Doing a quick search on youtube you find thousands of results of ADHD videos. Some are TV segments or infomercials explaining the dangers or benefits of ADHD medication. Other's are commercials for the latest ADHD cure. Still more are just videos of children who probably have ADHD from the look of it.
Videos on ADHD for people suffering with the disorder is really helpful. With such a short attention span the only way to teach an ADHD person effectively is to engage all their senses. Video does this effectively with sight and sound. Today in classrooms around the world teachers are turning more and more towards the use of videos to help teach the ever growing ratio of ADHD children in their classrooms. In most cases children are being taught and are interacting a lot more with videos then with anything else.
From when children are quite small we introduce them to videos because the content is educational, amusing and captivating. This allows parents to have a bit of time to do things around the house and home. We find ourselves using youtube videos, DVDs and other forms of video multimedia to keep our children entertained. Are we setting ourselves up for a child who will later be diagnosed with ADHD?
This exact thing has been on the mind of many people from all walks of life. Doctors, teachers and parents all have different ideas of what is causing the greater diagnosis of ADHD to occur. Since it is a stimulation control issue then it would seem that through the use of intensive exposure to video while the child is young, they never developed the control or other psychological tools to manage their attention and focus. The videos were doing it all for them.
So if you find that your child is developing some symptoms of ADHD, check to see if they are watching videos in moderation.
