During the summer parents seem to make changes to their child's adhd medication regime and this is. Why do they feel the need to do this? You don't do that with other disorders or diseases so why ADHD? Is there a concern over ADHD medication that parents feel that they need to have their child take a break from?
Parents should be concerned with everything that goes into their child's body. From water we drink to the huge amount of salty foods and snacks with all sorts of ingredients mixed together effects our bodies and in turn, how our body reacts. So genuinely they are concerned and want their child's bodies to "normalize" to their disordered state while they are out of school. The child's normal state is now what they were diagnosed with.
This may not be a big deal but in most cases the child is in some sort of day care, day camp or week long camps. The counselors at these camps are going crazy. They now have to deal with these out of control kids who need their adhd medication. These children are being put into situations, at camps and summer day care, that the medication was prescribed for. Throughout each day children are learning, interacting with others and going about daily life, and need to function. Their adhd medication helps them do that so they need it all the time.
That is where the root problem of the adhd medication comes in and the parents feelings that they need to let their children "take a break" from it. Everyone wants the effects of the medication to last. At a certain point during the time the medication is working it hits the right chemical balance with the body and functions the best for the purpose the child needs to use it for, concentrating or sitting still. Before and after that there is an imbalance in the system which has some negative side effects. Parents know the child definitely doesn't like it. Who want's their child to suffer something that is quite preventable on a daily basis? Little do they know or understand what pain and suffering they are inflicting on others.
Parents who do this must turn to an alternative medical treatment for their child's adhd issue. Medication is not the answer for them or their child. They must turn to all the alternatives from therapy and biofeedback to nutritional diets and supplements. The effects of these have been scorned by the industry but then it was them who came up with the ADHD medication so what can you expect.
